Cheryl and Miles' purebred herd, which consists of approximately 200 cattle, is a mixture of Holstein and Brown Swiss. Miles, who was born in Austria, has always had an affinity for Brown Swiss, and quickly added them to the purebred Holstein herd that the he and Cheryl acquired when they purchased the farm.
The purebred Brown Swiss and Holsteins of Cher-Mi Farm are some of the best in the area, and have been recognized as a Genetic Honor Herd in the United States for many years. The herd consistently produces high quality milk, winning quality milk awards from Agri-Mark, and the Tudhopes have received the Dairy of Distinction award for many years.
"We love seeing our cows outdoors," says Cheryl. "Our animals spend their days grazing in the fresh air, weather permitting. Taking care of our animals, and making sure they are content is our foremost priority."
In addition to being full-time farmers, the Tudhopes are also active in their community. Cheryl is the chair for the town assessing board, and the couple are former members of numerous farm and church organizations. Miles has served as a member of the local selectboard, school board, and planning board.
Miles and Cheryl have four children who have gone onto different careers after graduating from college. Their grandkids love visiting the farm, often bringing back first-hand knowledge to share with their teachers and classmates.
